Add Different Types of Product

Table of Contents

Types

You can add 4 types of products to your store:

  1. Simple Product (Explained here)
  2. Downloadable Product
  3. Variable Product
  4. Subscription Product

We will cover full detailed explanation of all 3 products types (not simple product) in this tutorial.

Prerequisities

You need to have the following things before going ahead with the tutorial.

  • An approved seller account. You can create one here.
  • Your account should have at least 1 more product limit to continue this tutorial. Otherwise, you can try deleting some products or moving them to draft (Only visible to you)
  • Prior knowledge of creating a simple product is recommended. You can learn that here. (Optional)
  • If you wish to sell/share your product on WBS Customer Group (Telegram) then have a look at the rules. (Important)

Please read the guide completely, for clarity. If some part is unclear you can drop your feedback

Downloadable Product

A downloadable product is a product which the user can download after ordering like plugins, software, etc. In this, the seller has to upload the file(s) which will be available to the user after downloading.

Features

  • Once the user has paid for the product, the seller doesn’t need to complete the order, it is automatically marked as ‘Completed’ and the file(s) uploaded by the seller during the product creation is provided to the customer.
  • It’s easy and simple when all the orders have to be given some details.
  • You can also provide a link to various websites like google drive, mega, etc. written in a text file.
  • The system instantly delivers this.

Add Product

We will only learn things that are different for downloadable type product from simple product. Common steps, like description, price, etc. are already covered in the getting started tutorial.

  1. Go to “New Product” tab in the seller dashboard. Don’t know? Look here.
  2. We will make simple downloadable product. (Variable downloadable product can also be made, look in Part 4)
  3. Check the checkbox under ‘Simple Product’ drop-down menu named as ‘Downloadable’.
  4. A new tab (Downloadable) under ‘Inventory’ will appear. Click on that.
  5. Fill in the required options and click on submit-
  • Name : The name of the file that will appear to the customer. (On website & on downloaded file)
  • File : You have to attach/upload the desired file from the button given. It will open the ‘Gallery View’, from there you can choose an existing file or upload a new one. (This is similar to selecting product image)
  • Additional Fields: You can also specify the ‘Download Limit’ (not recommended) and Expiration Time (in days) after which the file will be removed from customer orders. (not recommended)

If you want to upload a folder, you can wrap it in zip format and upload on site. The size of the file should not exceed 100 MB, otherwise the server will not be able to process it. You can also upload multiple files by clicking on add button. (Better solution: Wrap all files in zip)

Variable Product

In a variable product, the user has multiple options to choose from eg. validity, warranty period, etc. You can set different prices for all the variations. Multiple variations can also be made, eg. you can provide multiple options for the validity of a product, and under those options, users can again choose different warranty periods. (Recommended, instead of creating multiple products)

Features

  • Reduces product highly.
  • Easy for the user to choose options from one page instead of changing.
  • Every variation can have its own stock management.
  • Whilst one option can be out of stock while other is available, giving the user the choice to buy the other variation.
  • Each variation is a product in itself.

Add Product

We will only learn things that are different for a variable product from a simple product. Common steps, like description, price, etc. are already covered in the getting started tutorial.

  • Instead of choosing “Simple Product” as mentioned in the getting started tutorial, we’ll choose “Variable Product” from the drop-down menu on the “New Product” page.
  • Add basic product details, like description, title, etc.

Adding attributes

  • Click on the ‘Attributes’ tab under ‘Inventory’.
  • Add a new attribute by clicking on the “ADD” button in the “Attributes” tab. (You can add several attributes to a product but try not adding too many, as it will start to look ugly)
  • Now we will explain this part with the help of an example.

Example: You want to offer two different specifications on your product i.e. different ram sizes (8gb & 16gb) and different warranty periods (6 months & 12 months) on both the ram sizes –

  1. Ram Options: 8GB and 16GB
  2. Warranty Options: 6 Months and 12 Months
  3. Prices for all variation will be –

    • For 8 GB RAM with 6 Months Warranty: Price = ₹1000
    • For 8 GB RAM with 1 Year Warranty: Price = ₹1500
    • For 16 GB RAM with 6 Months Warranty: Price = ₹2000
    • For 16 GB RAM with 1 Year Warranty: Price = ₹2500
  • So, now we will add 2 attributes i.e. ‘RAM’ and ‘Warranty’. We will add 8 GB and 16 GB in the values section of the ‘RAM’ (you can add more as per your requirement) and ‘6 Months’ & ‘1 Year’ in the values section of ‘Warranty’, as shown in the photos.
  • You can separate multiple values using “|” (it is not i or L).
  • After you have successfully filled everything, go to the “Variations” tab under the “Attributes” tab.

Note: You need to check both the checkboxes below the ‘Value(s)’ section i.e. “Visible on the product page” & “Use as Variation”.

Creating Variations from Attributes

Now, after we’ve created the required attributes for our variations, we will create new variations from them. Attributes are a necessary requirement for creating variations, if you have not created any attributes, refer to the previous part.

  • In the “Variation” tab choose ‘Create Variations from all Attributes’ option under ‘Variations Bulk Options’ menu.
  • The browser may ask for Confirmation. Click on ‘OK’.
  • If you did everything correctly as instructed, then your variations will be visible. (4 in our case. Cannot understand why? Refer to the previous part or see the photos)
